PS4/PS5 compatibility

How do I make my device work with PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5?

  • For PlayStation 4 compatibility, you need to use the PS4 Mode or the PS Passthrough add-on.

  • For PlayStation 5 compatibility, you need to disable the PS4 Mode add-on and enable the PS Passthrough add-on. Additionally, you must select PS4 as the input mode in the settings section and choose whether the device functions as a controller or as a fight stick. (The TIKITAKA PS5 edition device comes factory-set with these settings, so there is no need for additional configuration.)

Why does the controller stop responding after a while on PS4 or PS5?

  • PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 use an authentication mechanism to ensure that only approved controllers can be used on the consoles. If a device does not implement this authentication mechanism, the controller will be subjected to an 8-minute timeout.

  • Even when using PS4 mode on a PC, there is no timeout, but we recommend using XInput mode for the best compatibility on PC.

What is the 8-minute timeout?

  • An 8-minute timeout is as follows:
  1. Connect the controller to the PS4/5.
  2. Press the PS button to initialize the controller.
  3. Play for about 8 minutes.
  4. The console rejects the controller due to a failed authentication.
  5. The user unplugs the non-functional controller.
  6. Return to step 1 and repeat the process.
